Mario Kart Tour shuts down after seven years and $268m in revenue
Nintendo has ended service for Mario Kart Tour on iOS and Android, closing the mobile racer seven years after a launch that drew 14.7m downloads in a day.

Nintendo has switched off Mario Kart Tour, ending service for its mobile kart racer at 11pm PT on 29 September 2026 (8am CEST on 30 September). The game first arrived on iOS and Android in September 2019.
The app is still listed on the App Store and Google Play, but it can no longer be played. Opening it now shows a notice that the service has ended, along with a short message from Nintendo: "Thank you for your support throughout the years."
The numbers
According to AppMagic estimates reported by Mobilegamer.biz, the game earned about $268.5 million in lifetime in-app purchase revenue:
- Downloads passed 276 million overall, including 14.7 million in the first 24 hours and 81.8 million in the first month.
- Monthly revenue peaked at just under $22 million in October 2019, then settled at $5-6 million a month through 2020 and 2021.
- By July 2026 it was bringing in roughly $650,000 a month.
- The US accounted for 39% of spending and Japan for 26%, with France, Germany and the UK each contributing 5-6%.
Across its run the game offered more than 546 courses.
Why it matters
Huge launch numbers don't guarantee a long life for a live-service game. Mario Kart Tour's spending fell steadily after its debut month. For players, the closure is another reminder that online-only games can disappear completely, while titles that work offline stay playable on the phone for as long as it runs them.
