Tokyo Game Show 2026 Draws 257,642 After Typhoon Cancels Final Day
Tokyo Game Show 2026 drew 257,642 visitors over four days after Typhoon No. 25 forced organisers to cancel the show's first-ever fifth day on 21 September.

Tokyo Game Show 2026 closed a day early after organisers cancelled Monday 21 September because of Typhoon No. 25, and the event finished with 257,642 visitors across four days. The cancellation was announced on 19 September.
TGS had been planned as a five-day show for the first time, running from 17 to 21 September at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Organisers said the decision was made as wind and rain picked up and to account for the transport situation. Ticket holders for 21 September were offered full refunds through the sites they bought from, according to Korean outlet Gamemeca.
TheFamicast reported this breakdown of the final attendance:
| Period | Visitors |
|---|---|
| Business days (17–18 Sept) | about 106,175 |
| Public days (19–20 Sept) | about 151,467 |
| Total | 257,642 |
That is the second year in a row attendance has fallen, after 274,739 in 2024 and 263,101 in 2025, though this year's show also lost a full day to the weather.
Organisers have already set the next edition. TGS 2027 will again run for five days, from Thursday 16 to Monday 20 September 2027, at Makuhari Messe.
Why it matters
TGS remains one of the biggest stages for Japanese and Asian publishers, so its dates matter for anyone planning announcements around it. Sticking with the five-day format for 2027 suggests organisers still see room to grow, despite the slight dip in visitors.
