1. War

Split the deck. Both players flip their top card; the higher card takes both. On a tie, it's "war": three cards face down, one face up, and the winner takes the lot. It's pure luck and perfect for children.

2. Crazy Eights

Deal 5 cards each (7 in some versions). Match the top card of the discard pile by suit or rank. Eights are wild and let you choose the next suit. The first player to empty their hand wins.

3. Speed

Each player races to play cards one higher or lower onto two centre piles at the same time. No turns and no waiting, just reflexes.

4. Go Fish

Ask your opponent for a rank ("Any sevens?"). If they have them, you take them; if not, "go fish" from the deck. Collect sets of four.

5. Gin Rummy

Draw and discard to build sets (three or four of a kind) and runs (three or more in sequence, same suit). Knock when your unmatched cards total 10 or less; "gin" means everything is matched.

6. Cribbage

Score points for fifteens, pairs and runs, both during play and when counting your hand, and move pegs on a board. It has a lot of depth for a two-player game.

7. Casino

Capture cards from the table by matching or adding up to the value of a card in your hand. Points go to most cards, most spades, the aces and the "big" and "little" casino cards.

8. Spit

Like Speed but with personal stockpiles: slap cards onto the centre piles as fast as you can, and the slower player takes the bigger pile.

9. Two-player Spades

Take turns drawing from the stock: keep one card and discard the next (or keep the second), until you each hold 13. Then bid and play normal Spades.

10. Hazari for two

Deal 13 cards each and set the rest aside. Split your hand into groups of 3-3-3-4 and compare them against each other, exactly as in Hazari. It's a great way to practise arranging hands.

Play 4-player games with 2 people

Many of the best South Asian card games, like 29, Callbreak and Hazari, need four players. On a phone, computer players fill the empty seats. In Card Adda, you can play a full four-player game offline with smart bots, so you only need yourself.
